Can you get this?
✓Minimum 51% Indigenous ownership required
✓Must be a BC-based Indigenous or First Nation entity
✓Financial capacity to contribute 25–60% of project costs
✓Must cease unregulated cannabis operations before funding
✓On-reserve projects need First Nation government support
Your real odds
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until funds are exhausted, so submitting early gives you a real advantage over later applicants.
There is no fixed deadline or cohort, which means the pool shrinks continuously and timing directly affects your chances. Stream 2 requires a full business assessment by an Indigenous Financial Institution, making it a more rigorous process than Stream 1.
What it takes
Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) online outlining your opportunity and funding needs1–3 hours
Wait for NRT follow-up and referral to a participating Indigenous Financial Institution (IFI)5–7 business days
Complete project screening, due diligence, and contribution assessment with the IFISeveral weeks
Worth knowing
NRT offers a free Cannabis Navigator service at cannabisnavigator@nrtf.ca that provides one-on-one guidance to develop your application and navigate licensing, and using it before you submit could meaningfully strengthen your EOI.
