Your real odds
The program has a lifetime funding cap of CAD$500 million shared with CMPII, and individual projects are capped at CAD$75 million in credits, so total availability is finite.
Credits are awarded on eligible costs rather than scored against other applicants, so this is not a competitive grant process. The finite overall cap means applying early gives you a real advantage.
What it takes
Confirm your project is eligible (type, location, minimum CAD$10M investment)1–2 days
Complete and submit the OGPII Application Form to the Ministry of Energy and Resources1–2 weeks
Submit eligible costs via the OGPII Eligible Cost Submission Form as the project progressesOngoing through project lifecycle
Worth knowing
Royalty credits are fully transferable, so if your company has no crown royalty obligations, you can sell or transfer the credits to a company that does, making the program viable regardless of your royalty position.
