YOUR REAL ODDS

Acceptance is competitive and decided locally by Small Business Enterprise Centres, which conduct interviews before approving applicants.

No acceptance rate is published, but the process includes a business plan review and in-person interview, so preparation matters. Spots are limited and some local providers have earlier deadlines than the provincial one.

WHAT IT TAKES

  1. Find your local Small Business Enterprise Centre and confirm their deadline — 1–2 hours

  2. Prepare a business plan and cash flow projection (your Centre can help) — 1–2 weeks

  3. Submit application and attend an interview with your program provider — 1–3 weeks

  4. Sign agreement, register business name, and set up a business bank account — 1 week

WORTH KNOWING

The grant is split into two payments — up to $1,500 upfront and up to $1,500 on successful completion — so you need to follow through on program requirements, including at least four mentor meetings and a minimum of 280–420 hours of work over the summer, to collect the full amount.
